From The Canterbury Puzzles by H.E. Dudeney.

“One day…the Franklin’s company called on him to produce a puzzle. The Franklin placed on the table 16 bottles numbered 0-15.  ‘Now my masters,’ quoth he…’I pray you so place them afresh that they shall form a magic square, adding up to 30 in all the ten straight ways. But mark well that ye may not remove more than ten of the bottles from their present places, for therein layeth the subtlety of the riddle.'”

You can try this puzzle at home with any numbered counters.
